Irritable bowel syndrome is such a pain.

The medication prescribed for IBS sometimes works for a while, but sometimes doesn’t. For some people the condition takes over their lives.

With IBS D [diarrhoea] the need to know where a loo is at all times is all-consuming, and with IBS C [constipation] the discomfort of not being able to ‘go’ is extreme.  And BLOATING…  Unless they suffer too, people do not understand how uncomfortable bloating can be. Slight bloating is uncomfortable enough, and gets dismissed by doctors as tummy fat.  Bloating that mimics a seven month pregnancy…every day!!  is horrid.

92% of the clients I see get better with just a change of diet.  The rest need to take probiotics and enzymes to get a good result.

So what are the TOP 5 foods which cause IBS?

Out of 264 IBS sufferers tested this year

  1. Cocoa 50% [all of these people ate or drank chocolate at least once a day]
  2. Orange 41% [ not all of these people regularly used orange]
  3. Cow’s milk products 34% [all of these people were consuming dairy products at least twice a day]
  4. Yeast, all cheeses, all yogurts  30% [most of these people thought their problem food was wheat]
  5. Coffee 30% [all of these people were drinking coffee twice or more daily]

Tea was a problem for 23% of my IBS clients.  They were all drinking tea twice or more daily. I think fewer people drink tea than coffee these days.  Maybe that is why coffee more commonly causes IBS.

Why these foods?

It is not coincidental that these foods are an issue. For nearly everyone I test …whatever their symptoms….. their problem food/drink will be one they consume twice daily or more.
